PRESENTER: Nancy brings over 23 years of successful startup experience to Asurion Mobile Applications as VP of Engineering. Having led the product efforts for a startup, now purchased by a $3B corporation, to profitability, Nancy's focus now is achieving her BHAG, 100 + million users of her team's mobile data services.
Nancy holds an M.S.E. and a B.S.E. from the University of Michigan and is a featured speaker at MIT Sloan School's entrepreneurial conference and the "U-M Bay Area Entrepreneurial Experience," consistently awarded highest speaker scores from attendees.
第一次参加MPowered的讲座,原本也就等于是被宣传邮件骗去的,看中的倒不是她赚了多少钱,而是最后那段所谓"highest speaker scores"这才把我骗去,想看看美国人说话的魅力嘛。结果……
从举办角度来说感觉和国内的很像,有一丝为了办活动而办的意味。言下之意也即,Nancy在我看来不算是一个好的presenter.而与国内仍有不同点,当然就在于听众了。Q&A阶段提问百出,略偏技术的,发展方向,年轻经历,失败经历,不高兴的经验等等。不管内容,美国人总是会在演讲后余下15-30min甚至更久的提问阶段,而大家都有问可提,这才是不一样的地方。
听讲座对我来说已经不是很热衷了,不再像曾经努力记下演讲者的内容。现在偶尔开开“小差”,因为演讲内容会激发我的各种想法,算是与生俱来+后天磨练的想要改善的欲望。三个小idea又诞生了。所以提醒自己不要带着功利心去做事,也许就会须到意料之外的创意;而,若不是带着一丝功利心,也许今天还不会去呢,呵呵。
当然再无聊的讲座也会有一点闪光点。记录三条:
- 3 referencable customers. 做出一个产品之后要不断完善时,目光不再停留于产品本身,而是关注到客户上,尤其在拥有了第一个客户的初始阶段。建议寻找3个referencable客户,不断改善。(其实怎么找这样三个人我不记得了,但是这个概念还是不错的。)
- Let yourself be replaceable. 如果想做得更大,就一定要接受"You are not enough"的事实,不断接纳比你更优秀的人进入团队,这并不妨碍你要继续做一个cheer leader,只是你不能也不可能霸占所有东西。你是可替代的,才说明项目有发展的可能。
- Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like hard work. -- Thomas Edison 警醒自己,不要因overalls而忽视,不要以hard work为借口。
